Abstract, absurdist, psychedelic oil panting of farmer and rancher, 'Ernesto Hernández' from a remote mountain village in the Sierra Madre of Mexico. Oil on panel 48" x 36”. (See larger image below.) Read Ernesto's 'bio' below.
Señor Hernández is a 58-year-old farmer from a remote mountain village in the Sierra Madre of Mexico. He has spent his entire life tending to the land, growing maize, beans, and chili peppers, living in close harmony with the rhythms of nature. Raised by his grandparents, Ernesto learned traditional farming techniques passed down through generations, as well as the deep cultural significance of the mountains and their spiritual history.
One quiet day, after all his farm work had been completed, Ernesto took a bite of the teonanácatl (the sacred mushroom) and journeyed into the mountains alone with a canteen and his large sombrero. All of his trips on the healing powers of the magic mushroom were deeply transformative but this particular one, Ernesto Hernández was guided by flying pink begonias and floating cacti who told him to enter the mountains “Just over there” through an indigo blue portal where They shared ancient wisdom and visions of his forebears.
Since that experience, Señor Hernández has become more mindful in his daily practices, focusing not only on the physical care of his crops but also on nurturing his relationship with the natural world. He now guides others who are curious about the spiritual traditions of the mountains, using his renewed understanding to deepen his love for his comunidad along with his connection to his heritage.
